Got a little bit of money for Christmas so I decided to banish the blues and buy a few things I wanted. I bought myself a cheap acoustic guitar. I got rid of mine a few years back and wanted a cheap one to bash around on. The Telecaster is a great guitar, but too good to bash around on.
I also got a few bits of music that I have been enjoying this last year, so Eels - End Times, the Broken Bells CD and NIN’s With Teeth are on their way to me. And I downloaded Tiny Tears by Tindersticks, A Forest the slow remix from Blank, Jones and Reeder and The Farthest Star by VNV Nation. Nothing particularly new, but stuff that has shaped this past year for me.
I’m wondering where 2011 will take me. The future has always been a little scary for me, but I am really going for things this next year. So before it starts, I thought a little retail escapism may be helpful.
“I know it’s hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don’t want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you’re human after all
The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand. Please, don’t cry now”—VNV Nation - Illusion
You’ve been lying in bed for a week now
Wondering how long it’ll take
You haven’t spoken or looked at her in all that time
It’s the easiest line you could break
She’s been going (about) around her business as usual
Always with that melancholy smile
But you were too busy looking into your (affairs) head
To see those tiny tears in her eyes
Tiny tears make up an ocean
Tiny tears make up a sea
Let them pour out, pour out all over
Don’t let them pour all over me
How can you hurt someone so much your supposed to care for
Someone you said you’d always be there for
But when that water breaks you know you’re gonna cry, cry
When those tears start rolling you’ll be back
You’ve been thinking about the time, you’ve been dreading it
But now it seems that moment has arrived
She’s at the edge of the bed, she gets in
But it’s hard to turn the opposite way tonight
Mash-up of George Michael’s Careless Whisper (although it was the one song on the Wham album that was credited as being written by both George and Andrew) and Duffy’s Stepping Stone. I think both original tracks are ok but the wonderful Bobby Martini has crafted a mash-up of pure brilliance here.
